The Summary of “Plagiarism? Are you Kidding?”

The girl in the video “Plagiarism, Are You Kidding?” illustrates the importance of citation to the boy. The boy believes that citation is just to show the professor that he reads everything. He obviously disagrees about this idea for the citation. He thinks that citing resources wastes too much time. However, the girl explains that the boy misunderstands the real reason of citation. She also points out so many reasons of how important citing sources are. She explains that citation can be the evidence that his ideas are shared by other people. It gives more support to his argument since more people agree with him. In this way, citation makes readers have more trust in the idea of his paper. She also mentions that he does not have to paraphrase every sentence from the source but the main idea of the article. Moreover, the boy also believes people cite their papers just to avoid the plagiarism. The girl then explains that, people also consider citation as the support of the main idea; also helps strengthening the argument, and showing the idea that belongs to other.

To be honest, before I watched this video, I shared the opinions of the boy in the video. I thought citation only helps us avoid the plagiarism, and I hated to do it because of the same reason as the boy. I usually copied the whole sentence down into my paper because it shows that I really have some sources. However, after I watched the video, my opinion with citation is completely changed. I just realized that citing sources could actually show that my idea is strong and I also have other people who share the same idea support me; not just to avoid the plagiarism. It also gives many benefits to the paper.
