Hi everyone, my name is Chantakan Chanpalangsri and I’m from Bangkok, Thailand. My nickname is Jan and let me tell you guys that everyone in Thailand has a nickname because our first names are usually long. I’m the oldest out of three children; I have one sister and one brother. I was born in Bangkok, which is the capital city of Thailand. Bangkok is known as the city that has the worst traffic jam at all time. One of the best festivals in my country is Songkran festival; it is celebrated as the traditional New Year’s Day from 13-15 of April. People will splash water to everyone they see that day, even strangers. It is actually held at the best time because April is the hottest month of the year. Now I’m in Ohio, this is my first time that I will live in the cold weather since Thailand is actually hot for whole year. I’m a freshman here and I’m also undecided with my major. The major reason that I am at OSU is to play golf for The Ohio State University. I have been playing golf since I was eight year old. My coach found me at the tournament in North Carolina, summer 2010. She offered me the scholarship right then, and I committed in November 2010. My schedule is actually packed for everyday. I finally had some rest during the winter break; I went back to Thailand. It was great, except the fact that the flood ruined my house. I went out with my friends every single day. I partied and let go all the stresses that I had from the fall quarter. Best of all, I had a chance to count down for the New Year with my family. Now I’m back in Ohio, I’m actually have no goal for the future so I will just make everyday to be the best day as much as I can. I will try to live without any regret.
Nice to meet you, Jan. I am really glad to hear that Thai students always have nicknames!
